Pakistani police officer killed in attack

KARACHI, Pakistan, June 19 (UPI) -- Gunmen opened fire Saturday on a group of police officers in Karachi, Pakistan, killing one of them, officials said.

Two other people injured in the attack were hospitalized, Dawn News reported.

The officers had been escorting prisoners to the City Courts when the gunmen began shooting and someone threw a grenade amid a crowd. Four prisoners who escaped during the attack, along with the gunmen, avoided immediate capture.

But authorities said security officials followed one of the gunmen, who killed himself nearby, Dawn said.

Search teams were looking for remaining gunmen.
