Iran arrests Pakistani terror group leader

TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Iranian officials report the leader of Jundallah, a terror group based in Pakistan, was captured Tuesday on a Dubai-to-Kyrgyzstan flight.

Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said Abdolmalek Rigi was arrested outside Iran's borders, Iran's state-backed Press TV reported. The minister said Rigi was transported to Iran.

Zahedan prosecutor Mohammad Marzieh told Fars news agency Rigi was arrested in a planned operation.

"Rigi's arrest was eventually made through a series of security measures taken for a long period of time," Marzieh said. "He is now in Iran and will be handed to security and judicial officials."

Jundallah has claimed responsibility for numerous terrorist attacks in Iran, Press TV said, including mass murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, acts of sabotage and bombings targeting civilians, government officials and Iran's military.
