Anti-Thaksin protesters rally in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- About 10,000 Thai protesters rallied in Bangkok Sunday to denounce ousted Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, observers said.

The yellow-shirted People's Alliance for Democracy members were protesting the deterioration of relations between Thailand and Cambodia after Hun Sen appointed Thaksin as an economic advisor, the state-run Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

The news agency said protesters drew from the general public, state employees, war veterans, students and taxi drivers. Their announced goal was to show solidarity to the world against Thaksin and Cambodia.

The Cambodian and Thai governments have mutually withdrawn their ambassadors in the wake of the Thaksin appointment. Cambodia last week refused to extradite Thaksin to Thailand, where he has been sentenced in absentia to two years prison for a conflict of interest in a land deal.
