N. Korea makes peace overtures to S. Korea

PYONGYANG, North Korea, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- North Korea seeks to better relations with South Korea and resolve tension from a recent naval confrontation, a state-run newspaper editorial said Tuesday.

The move, discussed in an editorial in North Korea's Rodong Sinmun newspaper, came on the eve of U.S. President Barack Obama's trip to South Korea, the last leg of his first trip to Asia as president.

"We will continue to make active efforts for the improvement of North-South relations," said the newspaper editorial, also published by the North's Korean Central News Agency.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has called improving inter-Korean relations an "urgent" matter to bring peace to the peninsula, the Workers' Party publication said.

The editorial said the future of inter-Korean relations "entirely depends on the attitude of the South Korean authorities."
