AUSTIN, Texas, June 11 (UPI) -- Two burglars may soon be identified thanks to a Web cam that taped them as they robbed a home in Austin, Texas, police say.
Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Stresing said the footage from the Web cam in Greg and Emily McGuire's home represents rare evidence for a burglary investigation, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman said Thursday.
"With this evidence, we'll be able to identify them and more or less convict them because the evidence is right there," Stresing said of the tape of Tuesday's theft.
Emily McGuire said her husband received a phone call from his security company after the burglary began and immediately logged onto their Web cam.
While police officers arrived at the scene too late to capture the burglars, the McGuire's Web cam taped live images of the pair searching through the couple's house.
"I don't think the guys even saw it," Emily McGuire told the American-Statesman of the computer camera.
