Mother accused of abusing child freed

AUSTIN, Texas, June 4 (UPI) -- A state district judge in Texas says a mother accused of feeding her own child feces must be released from police custody.

Judge Julie Kocurek ordered Emily McDonald freed Wednesday on an original personal recognizance bond stemming from the woman's earlier arrest and hearing before state District Judge Charlie Baird, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman said.

McDonald was arrested for a second time Wednesday after Kocurek revoked the bond issued by Baird. But Kocurek said she was required to free McDonald because her decision to revoke the bond was based on a computer glitch that made her believe she had issued the bond.

"I would not have signed the personal bond in this case because of the nature of the charges," said Kocurek, who cited Travis County court system regulations for her ruling.

McDonald stands accused of repeatedly feeding one of her three children human feces. The identities and ages of her children were not reported, nor were specific details of the alleged incident.

The American-Statesman said McDonald, who faces a charge of injury to a child, is not being allowed to see her children as part of her release.
