Police: Fla. man kills wife, 2 sons, self

LAKELAND, Fla., May 4 (UPI) -- Police are investigating the deaths of four members of a family in Lakeland, Fla., where a man apparently killed his wife and two sons before killing himself.

Troy Ryan Bellar, 34, used a high-powered rifle to kill his wife and two young sons on their front porch Sunday, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Monday. Bellar also tried to shoot a third child -- a 13-year-old son, the newspaper said.

After neighbors reported gunshots about 9:30 p.m., deputies arrived to find Wendy Bellar, 31, Ryan Patrick Bellar, 7, and Zack James Bellar, 5 months, dead inside a screened-in porch.

"I've never seen anything as bad," said Polk County Sheriff's Office spokesman Scott Wilder. "This is just awful."
