BOSTON, April 25 (UPI) -- A plane en route from New York to Tel Aviv was diverted to Boston after an Israeli citizen allegedly began banging on the cockpit door, said Delta Air Lines.

Itay Atmore, 22, was subdued by passengers and crew after he allegedly became unruly Friday night aboard a Boeing 767 that had left JFK airport, The Boston Globe reported Saturday.

Atmore was detained by the Massachusetts Port Authority after the plane landed at Logan International Airport, said Delta Airlines officials.

He faces a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew, said Phil Orlandella, a spokesman for the port authority.
