Six killed, 8 arrested in Afghan clashes

KABUL, Afghanistan, March 22 (UPI) -- Six militants were killed and eight others arrested in separate operations in the Kapisa and Kunduz provinces of Afghanistan, officials said.

In one of the joint U.S.-Afghan operations, five militants were slain and four arrested in an assault on a compound in Kunduz province, near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, the Kuwait news agency, KUNA, reported Sunday.

Troops clashed with enemy combatants while conducting operations to disrupt militant activity in the area, military officials said in a statement.

Separately, another militant was killed and four more detained in a similar operation in the country's southeastern Paktia province Sunday, another official statement said, KUNA reported.
