BERNE, Switzerland, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- The Jet Protector JPX pepper-spray gun from the Swiss company Piexon is a great addition to a police officer's arsenal, a company official claims.
While Raphael Fleischhauer, the director of technology and manufacturing for Piexon, says the pepper-spray pistol is ideal for law enforcement use, Amnesty International Switzerland says the device is still a very dangerous weapon, SwissInfo.com said Friday.
"It's like getting a slash in the face," Fleishhauer said of his company's new product. "It's a very strong pain. You can't see for 30 minutes. It stops you completely."
Fleishhauer is marketing the non-lethal weapon as an alternative to the Taser stun gun, but Amnesty International official Daniel Graf says both choices come with unpredictable results.
"The problem is that people think these are non-lethal weapons and therefore are more inclined to use them anytime they are afraid when they really have no idea exactly how they will affect the person they're being used on," the human rights group spokesman in Switzerland told SwissInfo.com.
