Cousin held in Brooklyn girl's slaying

NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A Brooklyn woman says New York police arrested a teenage cousin Wednesday in the slashing death of her daughter.

Marva Braithwaite told the New York Post that 16-year-old Tiana Browne was being charged in the death of Shannon Braithwaite, also 16, on Tuesday.

Braithwaite described Browne as a troubled teen who had been invited to move in with the family just two days earlier.

"She killed her -- 29 stab wounds to the body -- and then helped herself to my daughter's stuff," Braithwaite said.

The Post said Braithwaite found her daughter's body in their apartment when she arrived home to take Shannon to the bank to deposit her final paycheck from her summer job at the Brooklyn Children's Museum.
