LAKE CICOTT, Ind., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Two dump trucks hit a school bus Friday afternoon in Indiana in a collision that killed the four special needs students on board.

The crash occurred on a state highway 8 miles west of Logansport just before 3 p.m., the Kokomo Tribune reported. The bus was carrying students from Twin Lakes School Corp. home.

State troopers said one of the dump trucks swerved to avoid another vehicle and hit the bus, which turned over in front of oncoming traffic. The second truck hit the roof of the bus, pushing it into a ditch and trapping the children and the driver inside.

The bus driver, a minister, was the only survivor on the bus. He was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis, about 80 miles south of the crash.

The drivers of the trucks, both operated by Deichman Excavating in Logansport, were not injured.
