Superdelegates see no rush to endorse

WASHINGTON, April 18 (UPI) -- Some superdelegates say they are being bombarded by requests to back one of the Democratic U.S. presidential hopefuls before the party's convention in August.

As a superdelegate, Debra Kozikowski, the vice chairwoman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, is among nearly 800 Democratic Party leaders and elected officials likely to decide whether Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton will be at the top of the party's ticket, USA Today reported Friday.

"Until America has (its) say, I'm going to wait to have mine," she said. "I don't want voters ... to feel as though superdelegates are sweeping down and making the decision for them."

In Pennsylvania, which holds its primary April 22, superdelegates there say they feel little pressure to end the primary battle between Clinton and Obama before the last primaries on June 3, the newspaper reported.

Sen. Joseph Biden, the Delaware Democrat who abandoned his presidential bid in January, said there is no rush to end the primary battle.

"There's absolutely no urgency for any superdelegates ... to worry about closing this thing down," Biden said.

Biden, a superdelegate, said enthusiasm among Democrats is high.

"That's good stuff, man," he said. "When people vote in the primary, that is the surest sign they're going to vote in the general election."
