CHICAGO, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A special education teacher in Chicago may lose her job for allegedly taping a 9-year-old boy to a chair after he disrupted her class.

A spokesman for the Chicago Public Schools said the teacher, who got her license in June, had been teaching at Medgar Evers School for just a week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday. She has been removed from teaching duties and could also be charged with a crime.

"It appears the allegations will be substantiated and we will fire her,'' said CPS spokesman Michael Vaughn.

The teacher had a small class of special education students. When one boy refused to sit down Wednesday, she allegedly grabbed a roll of masking tape and used it to fasten him to a chair.

After a few minutes, the boy freed himself from the restraints. Three students reported the incident.

Police interviewed the boy and referred the case to the Special Victims Unit.
