Spilled coffee causes fatal crash

GREENLAWN, N.Y., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A New York state man distracted after spilling a cup of coffee in his lap struck and killed an elderly neighbor with his car.

Police in Suffolk County, N.Y., said that Bradley Dorman of Greenlawn, N.Y. apparently lost control of his car Monday evening, Newsday reported. After striking a mail box, he tried to get the car back onto the street and hit Kate Porto, who was taking a walk near her home.

The 84-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Huntingdon Hospital.

Dorman was given a summons for failing to exercise due care, the newspaper reported.
