Victim apparently stuck head out of SUV

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- A New York man apparently was killed when he stuck his head outside an SUV and his head struck a pole, police said.

Clarkstown, N.Y., police say minutes before passenger Aleksandr Shvartser, 29, of Brooklyn was killed Sunday they received a call from the driver of another vehicle who said an SUV was swerving erratically along a road, narrowly missing utility and other poles.

Officers found the SUV stopped on Convent Road with Shvartser bleeding from the head in the front passenger seat, the White Plains (N.Y.) Journal. He was pronounced dead at Nyack Hospital.

X-rays showed skull fractures and an autopsy was planned.

Police said at first they didn't know how the man had been injured but after talking to the driver and two other passengers in the vehicle, said the victim apparently had stuck his head out of the SUV, the Journal said.

The driver of the SUV was charged with drunken driving.
