Edwards chides Clinton, Obama on feud

ST. LOUIS, July 28 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says the bickering between his two main rivals illustrates what's wrong with U.S. politics.

In a speech Friday to the National Urban League, Edwards sought to position himself as the more statesmanlike leader while rivals Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama engaged in a public feud, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

"In the last four days we have two good people, Democratic candidates for president, who have spent their time attacking each other instead of attacking the problems this country faces," Edwards told the League's annual convention, which also heard speeches from Illinois' Obama and New York's Clinton.

Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina, referred to a recent series of sharp exchanges between Clinton and Obama and their aides over how each candidate would handle relations with the leaders of nations the United States has cool relations with if elected. The sparring, Edwards said, is proof of a political system that is "broken."
