U.S.-Ukrainian war games prompt criticism

KIEV, Ukraine, July 4 (UPI) -- A military exercise between U.S. and Ukrainian military forces scheduled to begin next week has drawn opposition from the Ukrainian Communist party.

The group said in a statement it launch a public relations campaign to oppose the international military war games which are set to begin Monday, RIA Novosti reported.

"Massive protests against the exercise will start July 4, as this is when the military planning phase starts, involving the arrival of troops and military equipment," the party said.

The military exercise is part of the Partnership for Peace program led by NATO. It is scheduled to run in Odessa through July 22.

Ukraine's Progressive Socialist Party has also said it would protest the exercise, RIA Novosti said.
