Officials Kabul said the explosion took place in the country's Faryab province.

Earlier, officials said the explosion had occurred in Maimana City, the province's capital, after an ISAF vehicle hit a landmine.

ISAF spokeswoman Lt. Colonel Angela Billings called the attack a cowardly attempt to disrupt Afghanistan's current level of peace.

If the attack is confirmed as a suicide assault, Kuna said it would be the first in the province this year.
