Pakistan bomb kills at least 28

CHARSADDAH, Pakistan, April 28 (UPI) -- Pakistan's interior minister was injured slightly Saturday in a suicide bombing that killed at least 28 people and injured dozens more.

The blast occurred in the northwest city of Charsaddah where Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao was speaking at a political rally, Pakistan's GEO-TV reported.

It was believed the injuries to Sherpao and his son were not life-threatening, police told GEO-TV. They were among 44 reported injured.

GEO-TV said the dead included three police officers and Jahanzaeb Khan, political secretary of Sikandar Sherpao. Witnesses said body parts were scattered around the stage area. The security agencies cordoned off the area.

CNN said the suicide bomber apparently was from Afghanistan and blew himself up when he tried to get past security guards and closer to Sherpao, who was speaking to about 250 people. Sherpao had been warned in recent days that he could be targeted for attack by al-Qaida, CNN said.
