SOFIA, Bulgaria, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Britain, the Netherlands and Spain plan restrictions on immigrant workers from Bulgaria and Romania once the two states join the European Union Jan. 1.

The Daily Telegraph on Monday listed rules that have been applied by the Home Office to Bulgarians and Romanians seeking jobs in Britain.

A maximum of 20,000 low-skilled workers will be allowed to work in food processing and in agriculture. Skilled workers should obtain work permits for jobs where no British labor force is available.

The Netherlands will introduce a special regime for jobseekers from the two Balkan countries as of January. For the next two years, Bulgarians and Romanians will be granted work permits only when Dutch qualified personnel is not available, Dutch Ambassador Willem van Ee in Sofia told the SNA agency.

Spain's Interior and Labor ministers visited Bucharest during the weekend and informed Romanian officials about restrictions on jobseekers from Bulgaria and Romania, the agency said.
