S. Korea's Roh to stay in party

SEOUL, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun threw another political curve at his Uri party Monday, saying in a letter he had no intention of resigning.

Last week, the frustrated leader said at a Cabinet meeting for all of the opposition he faces not only from the opposition Grand National Party but his own Uri party, he might as well resign.

However, before embarking on an 11-day Southeast Asian tour, he left a letter for his party clarifying his stand.

"I will remain in the party and try to discuss the party's future course of action, along with the party leadership and the ordinary party members," Roh said in his letter.

He also criticized the Grand National Party for being divisive, the Korea Times reported.

"I admit that an opposition party is supposed to criticize the president," he wrote. "But the GNP has no policy alternatives, rejects dialogue and compromise, and even boycotts the normal operation of the National Assembly. What could I do with this?"
