JonBenet suspect set to fly to U.S.

BANGKOK, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- The suspect in the JonBenet Ramsey killing was in a Bangkok jail Saturday as Thai and U.S. officials prepared to fly him back to the United States.

John M. Karr is scheduled to fly to Los Angeles from Bangkok Sunday, a Thai Airways official said. His plane is to land in Los Angeles Sunday night, CNN reported.

He faces charges of murder, kidnapping and sexual assault of a child, a police official said Saturday.

Karr publicly claims he was with 6-year-old JonBenet in December 1996 when she was killed in her family's home in Boulder, Colo., but says her death was an accident.

Thai prison officials said Karr had two English-speaking Thai guards monitoring him at all times, but the round-the-clock presence was not a suicide watch.

U.S. Homeland Security Department official Ann Hurst, who visited Karr at the Immigration Detention Center, said he was in "good" condition.
