London to observe bombing anniversary

LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- Osama bin Laden reportedly is expected to release a video suggesting a link between al-Qaida and the 2005 bombing attack on London's transit system.

Britons observe the first anniversary of the London bombings Friday. The attacks killed 56 people in a four-prong assault on three subway trains and a double-decker bus.

Names of the dead will be read aloud at a memorial service. London Mayor Ron Livingstone and other officials will lay flowers at King's Crossing and Tavistock Square and memorial plaques will be unveiled at the four bombing sites.

The reputed bin Laden tape is expected to include statements by Bin Laden's deputy Ayman Al-Zawahiri and a videotaped last statement by one of the suicide bombers, the New York Daily News said.

The British government has said it has no hard proof that al-Qaida was behind the blasts. But, Rita Katz, director of the SITE Institute, said indications point to the group's involvement.
