U.S. warns N. Korea on missile test

WASHINGTON, June 20 (UPI) -- Bush administration officials Tuesday said the U.S. response to a North Korean missile test would involve the other countries in the six-party nuclear talks.

Presidential spokesman Tony Snow told reporters accompanying President Bush to Vienna that "it's not us and North Korea." National Security Adviser Steven Hadley pointed to Japan's offer to sponsor a resolution in the U.N. Security Council if North Korea goes through with its missile test.

"So it underscores Tony's point that there are a lot of actors in this process; a lot of folks are sending messages to the North Koreans this would be a bad idea, they shouldn't do it," Hadley said. "And a lot of these countries are going to have ideas about what we do should North Korea ignore the advice of the international community and go forward with this launch."

The Taepodong-2 missile reportedly has the range to reach the United States, and the test that North Korea has threatened is being treated as a hostile gesture by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
