WASHINGTON, June 13 (UPI) -- White House adviser Karl Rove won't face charges related to the leaking of the name of a CIA operative, a U.S. special prosecutor has determined.
The New York Times, on its Web site Tuesday, reported prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald sent a letter to Rove's attorney stating charges would not be forthcoming against Rove.
Rove has testified before grand juries five times regarding the investigation into the revealing of the identity of Valerie Plame, who worked for the CIA. Fitzgerald was looking into allegations Plame's name was given to reporters in retaliation for stances her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, took against the Bush administration's justification for its war in Iraq.
Another White House figure, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, has been indicted in the case on charges of obstruction of justice and perjury. The former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney is to go to trial Jan. 8.
