EMPURIABRAVA, Spain, May 27 (UPI) -- A British skydiver drowned after a freak mid-air collision with her best friend during a formation jump in Spain.

Tamsin Causer hit her head against Maria Russell's knee, The Times of London reported. The impact knocked her out, and she drifted towards the sea, coming down in the water apparently still unconscious.

Russell was injured.

Causer and Russell were participating in a formation jump organized by SkyDive Empuriabrava in the town near Girona on the northeast coast of Spain.

"Maria is uninjured but in a terrible state of shock and is being monitored in hospital," a spokesman for SkyDive Empuriabrava said. "Their boyfriends were on the ground, watching at the time. I can't imagine what Tamsin's boyfriend is going through, let alone Maria."

Causer, whose other hobbies included kickboxing and scuba diving, participated in four record-breaking formation jumps last year. A marketing manager, she had hopes of pursuing a new career as a stuntwoman.
