Attorney seeks dismissal of Holloway suit

NEW YORK, March 9 (UPI) -- The family of a Dutch youth questioned in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager in Aruba is asking a New York judge to dismiss a civil suit in the case.

The suit involves the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, 18, who disappeared last May during a class trip to the Caribbean island. No body has been found.

Expatica reports attorney Joseph Tacopina, representing Joran van der Sloot, is arguing New York is the wrong jurisdiction for the case.

Holloway's parents allege van der Sloot was responsible for their daughter's disappearance.

In an interview recently on ABC, he admitted being with Holloway on the last night she is known to have been alive but denied killing her, saying he left her alone on a beach. He and two friends were held by police for two weeks but were released without charges. Van der Sloot then returned to the Netherlands.
