DETROIT, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A Detroit police officer says officers were told to eat and go to the bathroom only in designated areas during Super Bowl XL patrols.
Carol Harris, a 10-year veteran and union steward, wrote in the union newsletter that officers were told to go to a downtown church to use the bathroom or eat. They were provided free meals there.
The Detroit News reports Harris said officers were told specifically not to use the Renaissance Center, home to General Motors Corp., and the NFL's Super Bowl headquarters.
She also said patrols were reduced to the rest of the city by more than half and redirected to the Ford Field and Super Bowl area.
Second Deputy Chief James Tate didn't comment on the critique but complimented officers on their performance of their Super Bowl duties.
