Pinochet questioned in general killing

SANTIAGO, Chile, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet was questioned Tuesday in the slaying of a colonel, El Mercurio reported online.

Col. Gerardo Hube, who was involved in Chile's arm sales to Croatia, was found dead in 1992, two years after the end of the Pinochet regime (1973-1990).

Pinochet was placed under house arrest last month in connection with Operation Colombo, the 1975 slaying of 1975 political dissidents allegedly ordered by the former strongman.

The 90-year-old Pinochet has also been accused of tax evasion and has been linked to the deaths of 3,000 Chileans during his rule.

However so far he has avoided prosecution, citing his detriorating health.
