Spain and China to ramp up relations

MADRID, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Spain and China sought to ramp up trade relations during a visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao to Spain, El Mundo newspaper reported Wednesday.

Spain's Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and Hu said following talks that they wanted to improve economic relations that already include more than $1 billion in business deals between the two nations.

Spanish leaders also said they would push for an end to the EU-imposed arms embargo against China, which has been in effect since the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.
