Party chairs say intelligence was flawed

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The chairmen of both the Democratic and Republican parties agree the pre-Iraq War intelligence was bad but disagree on how it should be viewed now.

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean both spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday.

Mehlman criticized a recent push by Democratic senators to frame the intelligence debate as a case of President Bush misleading the country. He agreed with Bush's contention in a speech Friday that many of those who now criticize the war voted for the war, based on the same intelligence Bush had.

Dean said the intelligence shown to Congress before the war was cherry-picked for what would best serve the pro-war case.
