Uganda rebels disrupting U.N. work

KHARTOUM, Sudan, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The U.N. mission in Sudan Wednesday accused Ugandan rebels of disrupting humanitarian assistance and programs for resettling refugees in south Sudan.

Deputy special representative of the U.N. secretary general in Sudan Emmanuel Da Silva charged the rebel Ugandan "Lords' Army" is responsible for deteriorating security in south Sudan, and for preventing the return of refugees.

"The attacks carried out by that army jeopardize humanitarian action and assistance in that province," Da Silva told a press conference in Khartoum.

The Sudanese government gave the regular Ugandan army permission to chase the rebels inside Sudanese territory three years ago.
