Fitzgerald mum on CIA leak inquiry plans

WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald had Washington guessing Wednesday as to how he will wrap up his inquiry into the leak of a CIA agent's name.

In completing the two-year investigation, Fitzgerald has until Oct. 28 to do one of three things -- file criminal charges, issue a report without filing charges or nothing.

However, Fitzgerald has been tight-lipped about his plans, causing waves of speculation to sweep through Washington, the New York Times said.

Government sources told the newspaper Fitzgerald has indicated he has no plans to issue a final report, leading many in the capital to conclude indictments will come before the 28th.

CIA agent Valerie Plame was named in July 2003 by a syndicated journalist, which prompted the inquiry. Plame's husband is a senior U.S. diplomat who had just prior to the outing criticized the Bush administration's justification for going to war in Iraq.
