Jordan king receives former Israel PM

AMMAN, Jordan, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Jordanian King Abdullah II met Tuesday with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and urged Israel's withdrawal from all Palestinian territories.

The Jordanian news agency, PETRA, quoted Abdullah as telling Barak that true peace between Israel and the Palestinians necessitates Israel's withdrawal from the whole West Bank.

He stressed that Israel's unilateral pullout from Gaza Strip "is an important turning point in the history of the Palestinian cause and should be succeeded with a full withdrawal from the West Bank."

The Jordanian monarch underlined that the creation of a viable independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian territories is the sole guarantee for stability and peace in the region.
