New York politicians team up on terror

ALBANY, N.Y., June 1 (UPI) -- Republican and Democratic leaders in New York State have teamed up to push through new anti-terror laws.

Republican Gov. George Pataki and Democratic state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer have jointly outlined a package of anti-terrorism bills they would like the state Legislature to approve before lawmakers end their regular 2005 session in June, the Albany Business Review reported Tuesday.

The new package includes legislation to create a crime of agricultural adulteration of food; a bill creating a new felony offense for launching a cyber attack against a government, utility or financial institution's computer network; the strengthening of laws against impersonating a pilot or other member of an aviation or ground crew; and extending state jurisdiction to crimes committed on an aircraft that lands in New York state, the Albany Business Review said.

The bill would authorize in some cases the release of suspected terrorists' tax returns to investigators and strengthen the ability of authorities to seize terrorists' property located outside of New York, the journal said.
