Security chiefs under judicial scrutiny

BEIRUT, Lebanon, March 17 (UPI) -- Lebanon's security chief Thursday put himself at the disposal of judicial authorities investigating the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Brig. Gen. Jamil Sayyed, head of general security, told a press conference he wants to get to the bottom of allegations "certain officials" were involved in the killing.

"We are ready to put up with all possible results of the investigation," he said.

The multi-sectarian opposition, which blamed Syria and the Syrian-backed regime of President Emile Lahoud for Hariri's Feb. 14 slaying in a massive bombing in Beirut, have demanded the dismissal of all security officials.
