Rockets fired at Gaza settlements

GAZA, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Palestinian militants fired rockets at Jewish settlements in Gaza Tuesday as Israeli troops made incursions into Palestinian areas to counter the militants.

Al-Aqsa, the armed wing of the Palestinian guerrilla organization Al Fatah, said in a statement that its fighters fired rocket-propelled grenades at an Israeli bulldozer west of the city of Khan Younes, scoring direct hits. It also vowed to continue resistance activities in all occupied Palestinian territories.

On its part, the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas, said its militants fired rockets and mortars at the Gaza settlements of Naveh Dikalim, Gush Katif and Kisovim.

The Israeli army said the city of Sederot, south of Israel, also was attacked with al-Qassam rockets Tuesday, causing panic among the population, but there were no reports of casualties.

In the meantime, Palestinian sources said Israeli army bulldozers destroyed trees, agricultural land and several buildings in the industrial zone close to the Erez crossing in northern Gaza in order to stop militants from using them to fire rockets at Israeli targets.
