Woman dies after botched biopsy

NEW YORK, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- The mother of a woman who died of bile contamination after a liver biopsy is suing New York's Stony Brook University Hospital.

Barbara Jean White, 42, died from an infection of the bloodstream a few days after her May 24 outpatient procedure, New York Newsday reported.

"They poisoned her. She kept complaining to them. The poor girl was dying, slowly dying for a whole week," said Barbara Jean's mother, Mildred White.

Barbara White began to complain of pain soon after the procedure and said doctors told her the internist who performed the diagnostic procedure inserted the needle in the wrong area, puncturing her gallbladder.

"They knew what they had done. I don't see why they just didn't do what they had to do to take care of her," said her mother.
