TOKYO, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The Japanese government has drafted an action plan to combat human trafficking, including funding for private shelters that care for trafficking victims.
The plan calls for tougher immigration controls, a domestic crackdown on human trafficking, and the protection of victims at private shelters, reported the Yomiuri Shimbun Thursday, quoting government sources.
As part of the tighter screening process for foreigners entering the country, the government may abolish a current requirement allowing foreign entertainers to obtain visas if they possess a certificate from their own government identifying them as entertainers.
This proposal was made because 80,000 Filipinos annually enter the country with entertainer certificates issued by the Philippine government. Under the new rules, visa applicants will have to show that they have studied in a particular entertainment field for at least two years.
