Senate panel adopts ban on federal outsourcing

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A U.S. Senate appropriations panel adopted a measure Thursday prohibiting the outsourcing of federal government jobs.

The language, added to the $90.6 billion bill funding the transportation and treasury departments in 2005 by the Senate Transportation-Treasury appropriations Subcommittee, is expected to draw a veto threat from the Bush White House.

Also added to the bill is a provision that would lift the federal ban on travel to Cuba.

As the Bush administration has made the economic and social isolation of Cuba a policy priority, the move is also expected to solicit a presidential veto threat.
