BOSTON, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- A man who has lived in Massachusetts for four years has been charged with war crimes stemming from the 1995 killing of some 1,200 men in Bosnia.
Marko Boskic, 40-year-old who worked construction in Peabody, Mass., was charged Thursday with entering the United States illegally and failing to tell U.S. officials he participated in the massacre of Muslims at a farm near Srebenica in Bosnia, the Boston Globe reported. He was ordered held without bond.
Boskic is alleged to have been part of a Bosnia Serb army unit that killed more than 7,000 Muslim men and boys in June 1995. Authorities allege Boskic was part of an 8-man group that shot about 1,200 of the victims.
Boskic's name came up a year ago during the war crimes trial of former Yugoslavia President Slobodan Milosevic. U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan told the Globe, his office began its investigation of Boskic after receiving a tip.
Boskic entered the United States four years ago under his own name when he claimed refugee status, which officials said constituted a fraud. It is not known exactly what war-crimes related charges prosecutors plan to file.
