Austrian seminary closed

VIENNA, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- The Vatican has closed a seminary in St Poelten, near Vienna, Austria, because of allegations of sexual impropriety, the BBC reported Thursday.

The closure was ordered by Bishop Klaus Kueng, who said the seminary had veered away from its mission to train young men into the Roman Catholic Church.

The seminary has been under investigation after a student was charged with distributing child pornography. The incident has caused much embarrassment to the Catholic Church.

In ordering the closure, Kueng accused the seminary leadership of "paying too little attention to recruiting requirements."

Authorities say images of child pornography and violent sex were found on the college's main computer.
