U.S. rejects allegations against Allawi

WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The United States Tuesday rejected as "incorrect" recent Arab media reports accusing the interim Iraqi prime minister has executed prisoners.

The reports accused Prime Minister Ayad Allawi of executing seven prisoners in Baghdad during a June incident. All seven were shot in front of witnesses including U.S. security personnel, the reports said.

"We have no information to indicate such an event had taken place," U.S. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told a briefing in Washington. "I'm told the U.S. government has checked and that we don't have any information that would indicate those reports are true."
