Argentina and China seek to bolster ties

BEIJING, June 29 (UPI) -- Argentina's president spoke glowingly of his trip to China saying talks on trade and other matters with his Chinese counterpart scored a "12 out of 10."

Nestor Kirchner is in Beijing for several days of talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and business leaders to discuss ways of augmenting Argentine-Sino ties regarding trade, agricultural, investment and several other areas.

His visit comes on the heels of trade talks between Argentina's neighbor Brazil and China in Beijing last month. Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva inked several deals in May, including agreements on oil, steel and car production set for both nations.

The Argentine leader said not only was it important for Argentina to bolster relations with China, but also for all of South American nations to follow suit. China is already Brazil's third-largest trading partner behind the United States and Argentina, with Brazilian-Sino trade reaching $8 billion last year.

Prior to arriving in China, Kirchner made stops in the Czech Republic and Russian for talks with leaders in both nations.
