U.S. to Iran: start cooperating on nukes

WASHINGTON, June 15 (UPI) -- Iran should stop "posturing" and cooperate with the U.N. nuclear watchdog over its nuclear program, the U.S. State Department said Tuesday.

"Iran has obligations under its international agreements ... so that's what we expect Iran to meet, and threats and other posturing don't get us anywhere," department spokesman Richard Boucher said.

The comments follow Iran's statement that it will stop cooperating with inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. nuclear watchdog, because of a critical report by the body. On Monday, IAEA Director Mohammed ElBaradei said Iran's cooperation with the agency had been "less than satisfactory."

The United States says Iran is using its nuclear technology to clandestinely manufacture weapons. Tehran maintains its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
