ST. PAUL, Minn., May 4 (UPI) -- Democratic Sen. John Kerry wrapped up a two-day, 16-hour campaign swing through Minnesota Tuesday wading into crowds to shake hands.
Kerry, 60, visited "Youth Build," a job-skills program on the east side of St. Paul that allows young people to earn their high school diploma or GED while rehabilitating housing for low-income or homeless people. The project was the last scheduled event on his Twin Cities trip.
After the appearance the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee walked across Sims Avenue to pose for photographs with about 20 adults and children who peppered him with shouted questions, the Pioneer Press said.
One impromptu question was about the war in Iraq. Kerry said he would bring U.S. troops home on a responsible timetable.
Kerry invoked the name of late U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone, an icon in progressive Minnesota politics, Monday night at public and private events that raised about $800,000 for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
