Ex-spy: Syria has data on Israel's reactor

JERUSALEM, April 9 (UPI) -- A former spy for Syria says Damascus has details of Israel's secret Dimona nuclear reactor, Ha'aretz reported Friday.

Capt. Yusef Abed al-Jalil, who served 10 years in an Israeli jail, says Syria even has photos taken from inside the reactor compound.

Jalil said the Syrians received the information from Soviet intelligence sources who had agents among Israel's Arab population.

A lengthy interview with al-Jalil, to be published by Ha'aretz Sunday, was made possible following the lifting by the Supreme Court of a 10-year publication ban on the affair, and at the request of advocate Mibi Mozar on behalf of Ha'aretz.

Jalil, who is of Kurdish origin, served in the Syrian general intelligence in a number of positions, including as an operator of agents in Iraq and Turkey.
