British charge five in bomb plot

LONDON, April 9 (UPI) -- British authorities have charged five men in an alleged bombing plot, the Times of London reported Friday.

The five, arrested a week ago after a massive police and MI5 operation across London and southeast England were charged late Thursday with plotting bomb attacks and other terrorist offenses.

Three of them are charged with offenses involving 1,322 pounds of ammonium nitrate, which can be used for making explosives and was discovered in a storage unit in western London.

Scotland Yard said all five would appear Saturday at Belmarsh Magistrates' Court in southeast London.
