Guilty plea in San Diego drug-weapons case

SAN DIEGO, March 3 (UPI) -- Two San Diego men pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges they sold drugs to undercover agents who planned to include four Stinger missiles as payment.

The U.S. Attorney's office said Muhamed Abid Afridi and Ilyas Ali admitted to charges of conspiracy to distribute narcotics and providing material support for terrorist organizations.

The pair was indicted in 2002 after they struck a deal with the undercover operatives for five tons of hashish and 600 kilograms of heroin from Pakistan. They agreed to accept four of the anti-aircraft Stingers as partial payment and planned to sell them to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Afridi and Ali will be sentenced in federal court on June 29.
